Will-Grundy Medical Clinic: Providing Free, Dignified Care to Uninsured Neighbors

For over 36 years, the Will-Grundy Medical Clinic has delivered free comprehensive healthcare to uninsured residents across Will and Grundy counties. Following a $900,000 community-funded overhaul of its historic 123-year-old Cass Street facility, volunteer doctors and nurses care for patients in modern exam rooms and dental suites.

The Will-Grundy Medical Clinic (WGMC) at 213 E. Cass Street represents community collaboration at its best. When structural deterioration temporarily displaced the clinic in 2020, community donors, local philanthropic foundations, and government grants united to completely modernize the 123-year-old facility. The renovated center features five examination rooms, a dental clinic, behavioral health suites, and private counseling rooms.

Staffed by dedicated volunteer physicians, registered nurses, dentists, and healthcare students, WGMC provides primary and chronic disease care for patients who earn too much to qualify for Medicaid but cannot afford commercial insurance. The clinic’s Health Equity Institute also conducts countywide mental and behavioral health assessments to identify gaps in local services.
