INDEPENDENT CIVIC INFORMATIONJoliet, Illinois
The rules for using Joliet Votes

Terms of use.

Effective October 27, 2026. Please read these terms before using the site.

These terms are a working foundation and will be expanded as the organization is formally established.

1. Accepting these terms

Joliet Votes (jolietvotes.com) is operated by Residents for Joliet (Pending Org Formation) (20 Member Council) (All Voluntary Grassroots). By using the site you agree to these terms and to our privacy policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.

2. Independent, not government

Joliet Votes is an independent community project. It is not an agency, office, employee, or contractor of the City of Joliet, the Joliet Police Department, Will or Kendall County, or the State of Illinois, and it does not speak for them.

Nothing you send through this site is an official police report, misconduct complaint, FOIA request, civil-rights filing, or city service request. Use the official resources we link to for those.

This site is not an emergency service. For an emergency, call 911.

3. Information is for education

Profiles, election dates, meeting guides, and news summaries are provided for general civic education. We work to keep them accurate and dated, but information can change and errors can happen.

Voter registration, ballots, polling places, and deadlines are decided only by official election authorities, such as the Will County Clerk and the Kendall County Clerk. Always confirm with them.

Nothing on this site is legal advice.

4. Nonpartisan and no endorsement

Joliet Votes does not endorse candidates or parties. Listing an official, outlet, or organization is not an endorsement by us, and linking to a source does not mean that source endorses or is affiliated with Joliet Votes.

5. News and outside content

The Joliet Record contains original summaries with links to the original publishers. Original dates are preserved and official statements are labeled. Outside articles, photos, and documents belong to their owners.

When you follow an outside link we show a notice that you are leaving Joliet Votes. Outside websites have their own terms and we are not responsible for their content.

6. Petitions

Petitions on this site are community advocacy. They are not ballot petitions, referenda, or recall petitions under the Illinois Election Code, and they do not require any official to respond.

By supporting a petition you confirm you are a real person acting for yourself, supporting it only once, and not using automated tools or someone else’s email. We may remove support that breaks these rules.

7. What you send us

When you submit a concern, correction, or petition support, you confirm it is truthful to the best of your knowledge. You agree not to:

  • post false, defamatory, harassing, threatening, or hateful content;
  • share private addresses, ID numbers, medical details, or other sensitive information about other people;
  • impersonate anyone or misrepresent an affiliation;
  • send spam, malware, or automated requests, or try to break, overload, or scrape the site.

We may decline, edit for privacy, or delete any submission, and may block misuse.

8. Corrections

We correct errors in the open. If you believe something is wrong, use the corrections form and include a source where possible.

9. Intellectual property

The site design, original summaries, and organization of content belong to the operator unless otherwise noted. Public records remain public. Photography is credited on the Sources page, including “Jackson Street Bridge from south, Joliet, IL (2017)” by David Wilson under the Creative Commons Attribution 2.0 license.

You may share links and short quotes with attribution to Joliet Votes.

10. Disclaimers

The site is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, including accuracy, completeness, or uninterrupted availability.

11. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent allowed by Illinois law, the operator, its council members, volunteers, and contributors are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from use of the site or reliance on its information.

12. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Illinois. Any dispute will be handled in the state or federal courts serving Will County, Illinois.

13. Changes

We may update these terms. The effective date at the top will change, and continued use of the site means you accept the updated terms.

14. Contact

Questions about these terms can be sent through the contact and corrections form.
