The People Who Brought Pumpkin Patches to Joliet Classrooms
Teachers, families and local businesses helped bring a fall tradition directly to students at two Joliet elementary schools, creating opportunities to celebrate together.
More than 180 students at Sator Sanchez and Lynne Thigpen elementary schools experienced pumpkin patches at their own schools in October 2026. The activities served students in Sanchez’s Adaptive, Behavior, Communication classrooms and Thigpen’s Living in a Functional Environment classrooms.
Students selected pumpkins, played games and participated in seasonal activities. Family members were invited to join their children.
The effort brought together school staff and community contributors. Konow’s Corn Maze donated pumpkins, Tractor Supply Company in Channahon provided corn, and Joliet’s Anything-Art supplied face painting at Sanchez. Teachers, staff and families contributed decorations and supplies.
The work behind the celebration deserves recognition: educators organizing activities around their students, families participating, and businesses contributing the materials that made the experience possible.
