Will-Grundy Habitat for Humanity: Constructing Hope and Homeownership in Joliet
Habitat for Humanity partners with hardworking Will County families who invest hundreds of hours of "sweat equity" to build and purchase their own energy-efficient homes. Supported by the volunteer-driven Joliet ReStore on Larkin Avenue, the organization creates permanent roots and intergenerational stability.
In an economy facing severe affordable housing shortages, Will-Grundy Habitat for Humanity proves that community volunteerism can build real solutions. From infill homes on Joliet’s East Side to new developments across Will County, Habitat selects local families who commit up to 350 hours building alongside volunteers and taking financial management courses before purchasing their homes through affordable mortgages.
A major engine behind this work is the Joliet ReStore, located at 1395 Larkin Avenue. By accepting donated home furnishings, building materials, and appliances and reselling them to the public at deep discounts, the ReStore keeps tons of usable goods out of landfills while funding the construction of multiple homes every year.
