Request an Independent Federal Assessment of the Robert Hernandez Matter
Joliet Votes is preparing a submission to FBI Chicago and the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Illinois concerning Robert "Bob" Hernandez, the former Housing Authority of Joliet commissioner. This petition asks the Mayor and each City Council member to publicly state whether they support, oppose, or need more information on three specific commitments, and to respond within 14 business days. The submission distinguishes the reported February 2025 court outcomes from other allegations and from materials that still require authentication. Federal agencies, not this petition, decide whether any further investigation is warranted.

The request
I ask Mayor D'Arcy and each member of the Joliet City Council to state, within 14 business days, whether they support, oppose, or need specific additional information on each of these commitments: 1. Support or join a written request for an independent federal assessment of the published allegations and available supporting materials concerning former Housing Authority of Joliet commissioner Robert "Bob" Hernandez, including supplemental review if a prior referral exists. 2. Support preservation of relevant city-held records and timely, lawful cooperation with requests from an authorized reviewing agency. 3. Ask the city administration to identify the applicable procedures for handling potential conflicts and to provide a clear contact for complainants or witnesses seeking to submit information. If any official believes an outside assessment is unnecessary, I ask that they explain the basis for that position and identify any publicly available review or findings they rely on.
