Twenty neighbors.
One vote each.
Facts first.
The Joliet 20 is a council of 20 resident volunteers who meet and vote on the pressing issues Joliet Votes should cover. No one is paid. No one holds public office.
Built to stay independent.
No public office
Members hold no elected or appointed public office and do not speak for the City, the police, the county, or any party.
Nonpartisan by rule
Every member understands and follows nonpartisan rules. The council endorses no candidates or parties.
Trained on the facts
Members are trained to stick to the public record: documents, meeting minutes, votes, and attributed reporting.
One leader. Nineteen voices.
Twenty equal votes.
The leader is one of the 20. They run meetings and keep the agenda, but their vote counts the same as everyone else’s.

All 20 seats are refreshed annually. Each year, the full council, including the leader, stands for reelection through a community vote, so the group always reflects the residents it serves.
To keep perspectives fresh, members who complete a term take one year off before they may seek a seat again. After that year, they are welcome to rejoin the process and run again.
